Baby Shower Festivities

Jeremy & Me
Dinner at Chuys

We had SUCH a fantastic time this weekend. It was so great having all of our family & friends in town. My Mom, Lynn, and I spent Friday running errands and getting things ready for the shower. Jeremy, Doug, and my Dad played golf while us girls hung out. Friday night, we all went to dinner to Chuys. It was super tasty, as always.

The shower was a HUGE success! I think we had about 50 people come over- it was quite the party! My mom prepared all of her famous app's & my Dad was a life saver on the grill. I was super shocked by the cake Carly & Mark transported from Houston- it matched the invitations! Jenn surprised me with a diaper cake- her first ever to make- and it was the cutest one I have ever seen! We also had a surprise visitor from Houston- our friend Robin! We were so excited to see him! Carly, Haley, Jenn, Alissa, and Casey- I can't say thank you enough! We had such a great time & are so blessed to have you all as family & friends. Here are some pics of the shower...

Revisiting the 80s

So, yesterday I had to make a trip up north to conduct a training class, and on the way home, I happened upon "Love Bites" by Def Leppard while skimming thru the radio. I know what you are all thinking....."What a find & a what a jam!" Of course, I cranked it as loud as it could go & just sang my little heart out. Once done, I started thinking back to how much I loved 80s music. I loved the big hair bands. While Haley & Carly were obsessing with NKOTB, I was dreaming of all my favorite rockers. In fact, I specifically remember in 3rd grade daydreaming that Axl Rose, Brett Michaels, and Bon Jovi would appear at my classroom door saying they were there to wisk me away from my dreadful English class. This is not a lie. I really use to dream this little dream. I can picture those 3 studs walking up to my classrom (they had to access the classroom via sidewalk b/c my classroom was actually a trailor, or as we preferred to call it- a portable.) Anyways, I can see them now heading up that sidewalk covered in leather with their long hair blowing the wind. Never happened, though. Oh, at least a 3rd grader can dream....

So, Love Bites inspired me to do what I have been meaning to do for quite some time now. Create an 80's fav mix CD. I did a little research & compiled a list. I called Jeremy & ran my list by him & asked if he thought I was leaving anything out, and his response was, "Yeah, how about some songs with quality." Oh, he just doesn't understand.

So, here is what I included on my 80s mix. Don't worry, Alissa- I already have you a copy.

1. Poison- Something to Believe In (this was a hard choice- I used to LOVE Poison)

2. Cinderella- Don't Know What You've Got (remember this video? He was playing the piano on
the beach & I think he had scarves or something tied around his head.)

3. White Snake- When the Children Cry (used to own the single)

4. Skid Row- 18 in Life (how can you forget the nose ring that connected to the ear? How did
that ever go out of style????)

5. Skid Row- I Remember You

6. Peter Gabriel- Your Eyes (need I explain??? I just think, John Cusak)

7. Don Henley- Boys of Summer (this has actually made it to many of my mixes b/c I just love
this song)

8. Toto- Africa (thanks, Jeremy, for re-introducing this song to me!)

9. Starship- We Built This City (just a good ole jam)

10. Patrick Swayze- She's Like the Wind (Ok, really, who knew Patrick could sing? Nobody puts
Baby in the corner!)

11. Pet Shop Boys- West End Girls (don't remember being a fan as a kid, but a fun song)

12. Paula Abdul- Cold Hearted Snake (this is SO much fun to sing to)

13. Tom Petty & Stevie Nicks- Stop Draggin' My Heart Around (Stevie Nicks is my fav female
singer, hands down. I love her voice!)

14. Great White- Once Bitten Twice Shy (can you have an 80s mix without this? I don't think
that is allowed)

15. Bon Jovi- Wanted Dead or Alive (Richie Sambora XOXO....actually, not so much anymore,
but back in the day. This song has SO many memories...love it!)

Mary Straton, I love your song lists, so I have to give you credit for my inspiration to share my mix!

Weekend at a Glance

This weekend was great! It was super busy, but we were able to get alot done. Saturday I had to work for a bit, but after that, I made another trek to Ikea for the sole purpose of a stuffed alligator. Call me crazy, but you haven't seen this gator. Casey is currently working on an alligator cut out to hang up in Hutch's nursery & it is so cute. Well, when Jeremy & I last ventured to Ikea, I noticed a really long stuffed alligator & I thought it would go great in the nursery. Well, I decided I would hold off because that was the last thing I should be buying right now. Well, that gator has just been in the back of my mind ever since. I needed another lamp for Hutch's room anyways (despise overhead lighting), so I made a quick trip up north to the great maze & picked everything up. AND, yes, the gator looks fabulous. I have a feeling it will be one of Hutch's favorite stuffed animals.

Saturday night we went to dinner with Jarrod, Casey, and her fam. It was great to hang out with everyone & dinner was fantastic. Sunday, we joined a church! I am so excited- we have been visiting Lake Hills Church for a while now, and we finally decided we were ready to join. They now hold services in the Austin City Music Hall & we just feel like that is where we are meant to go. It is very close to our house, we really like the pastor, the music is awesome (live band every Sunday), they have alot of opportunities to get involved, and I think their kids program is great, as well. We are very happy with our decision! Sunday night, we had dinner with my cousins, Tommy & Amy. We met up at Doc's & had a blast!

The nursery is practically done-I am so pleased with it. I have had a few requests to post some pics, and I will, but I am waiting until after our shower on the 21st. I want it to be a surprise for our family & friends coming in. We have put a lot of work into it & could not have done it without the help of Jarrod & Casey. We all agree that Hutch is going to have the coolest pad in Austin.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Our First Baby Shower

Jeremy's office threw us our first baby shower last week. We all met up for lunch at the Alligator Grill- it was a blast! We were so overwhelmed with how thoughtful & kind everyone was to us. We had a fabulous time & we received so many great gifts for Hutch. A HUGE thank you to all of those who came!

A Picture's Worth 1000 Words

To celebrate the beginning of a new year, I thought I would publish some of my favorite pics from 08, and I snuck in a few from 07. Had I written a blog this time last year, these would have defnintely made it to a post. What would we do without a camera???? This post is dedicated to all of those special pics that have been taken (& that I still actually have) that stand out as my fav's. Whether they represent a funny moment I could never quite justify with words or whether they bring back fond memories or whether I really just like them for no particular reason whatsoever, these are my tops. Carly & Haley love to take funny pictures of each other & I typically end up with countless photos of each of them when we are together, however, I don't seem to have any- otherwise, sisters, some of those would have definitely been posted. I would also like to dedicate this blog to my mother who always makes it a special point to capture every moment she can on film- Mom, we give you a hard time but we always want copies! :) XOXO
