In My Opinion....

I can sum up my review for The Other Queen in one sentence: "It's finally over." Of course, I am much too long-winded for a one sentece post, however. While I have been super impressed by the majority of Gregory's books (some of you are probably familiar with The Other Boleyn Girl), this one was super boring, very uneventful, and left the reader thinking, "And??????" I won't go into more detail- I am sure I have lost some of my audience already. While I would highly recommend many books written by this author, leave this one the shelf! B-O-R-I-N-G. I have much higher hopes for my current read, The Society of S (thanks for the recommendation, Jennifer!). Hopefully, it won't take me 2 months to finish.

Over the Course of a Week

Change of Plans, my dear friends. I have decided to quit my job, take up singing and dance lessons, and make my way to Broadway. Ok, maybe not. BUT, Haley& I sure left this incredible musical quite inspired! I had read the book & heard excellent reviews about Wicked, but nothing prepared me for how entertaining those 3 hours were! I can't wait to see it again. Maybe when I hit the big city in December? Sorry, Mama Mia. I think you just got pushed aside.

Here is a picture of Haley & I preshow. It was our first time to Bass Concert Hall, located on UT's campus. So, not only did we get see this awesome performance; we were also able to spend some time reminiscing about how great it would be to be in college again. Ah, the days.

Hutch is 5 months old!!!!! Whoa. Isn't he a little cutie? Of course, I know I am partial, but still....Look, he knows he's cute, too. Just look at that smile. He is very happy to be 5 months old.

We had SO much fun in Houston this weekend visiting Jenn, Chad, Alissa, Carly, and Mark. It was so relaxing just hanging out at Jenn & Chad's. I was even able to sneak in a nap while Jenn watched Hutch. It was great catching up with everyone & we can't wait to see everyone again! Here is Hutch taking a breather from all the action. Being passed around & held can be very exhausting.

Carly & Mark met us for dinner on Saturday. Hutch was very excited to see them! We can't make a trip to Houston without visiting our fave restaurant- The Rajun Cajun. It was so good- probably not WW friendly, but you have to splurge sometimes, right?

Alissa & I. Sorry, Jenn, I have one pic of you, but it's not your best. In the famous words of yourself, "Let's take another one. You don' t look so pretty." Haha! You looked a bit miserable, so I refrained from posting. You can thank me later.
We are heading into our last weekend with sweet Haley here. I can guarantee you there will be LOTS of tears. We are planning on making her last weekend here extra special. Heading to Esther's Follies & dinner on Saturday. I am also taking Friday off so I can just spend the day with her & the little man. She has been such a HUGE help & Hutch just loves her dearly. She will certainly be missed! Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Odds and Ends

As stated in my last blog, I have a few random exciting things to share. Here goes...

1) Today Hutch is 5 Months! People always tell me that your kids grow up so fast. Ok, I get it now. Friends would talk about how so and so was already in kindergarten. Or that their other little one was walking now. I would always agree that time certainly does fly, but inside I always thought, "Kindergarten? Walking? I mean, you are still a little kid when you go to kindergarten. And walking. I mean, really, technically, they haven't grown THAT much." Now, I understand. These past 5 months have FLOWN by. Sorry, friends, I now understand all too well.

2) I am going to NYC! I can't wait! I started thinking last week that I really want to go. I have never been & I definitely need to make a trip before we have another baby. SO, instead of just talking about it, I took initiative! Yay! A few days later I have a plane ticket, hotel reservations (thanks to my Mom), and Alissa, her Mom, and my Mom as traveling buddies. Girls trip! We are going during Christmas, too, and I think we will get to see the lighting of the tree at Rockefeller Center. I am going to do everything that is touristy. I am so excited!

3) Weight Watchers- 2nd attempt. Since I only lasted a week the first time I tried WW, I don't think it can technically count as an attempt. I am on day 3 & it has been great! My motivation- if I get to the size I want, I will reward myself with a pair of skinny jeans & tall boots. Bring it on, WW.

4) Houston Bound this weekend- woo hoo! We are so excited to spend the weekend with Jenn, Chad, and Alissa at the Johnson house. It should be a super relaxing time & I can't wait! I am getting a bit antsy after staying home this past weekend. :)

5) The Time Traveler's Wife- Love it, Love it, Love it!!!! It has been a while since I read the book, but from what I remember, it followed it pretty closely. I heart Rachel McAdams.

6) Congrats, BJ & Jenn on the birth of little Alex! She is SO cute! We are so happy for you guys, and although we won't be at Luckett this year for Thanksgiving, Hutch hopes to meet his little cousin soon!

7) I am officially addicted to Farm Town on Facebook.

I think that is all of my random thoughts at the moment. As usual, I was a bit long winded. Hope I didn't bore y'all too much! Have a great rest of the week!

Trip to Dallas

We headed to Dallas last weekend to surprise my grandparents. They were in town for a wedding and were so upset they would be so close to Hutch without seeing him. Well, you guys know how us Boone girls LOVE surprises! My Mom & I cooked up a little plan to completely surprise my grandparents. She ended up driving in from Jackson & meeting Haley, Hutch, and I at the hotel. We camped out in the room when they returned from the wedding (it was on Friday night). Once it was confirmed they were settled (thanks, Jan!), we stuck Hutch in his Boppy in the hallway, and hid where they couldn't see us (don't worry- we didn't just abandon my child there- we were just flat against the wall.) Their reaction was so funny! It had been so long since my grandmother had seen him, she said, "Oh my goodness! Someone has left a baby at our doorstep! How are we ever going to take care of this child?" My grandfather knew it was little Hutch immediately. It was so is a pic of Hutch waiting for them to open the door. Doesn't he look so confused??? Just chillin' in the hotel room
I will write more soon- I have some very random things I feel the urge to share! BUT 2 posts in one night is alot to take in, so I will spare you my rambling! Hope everyone has a great week!

All About New Foods

Here are some of Hutch's more photogenic moments over the past couple of weeks!
Green Peas!!!
Sweet Potatoes

Things are pretty hectic around our house these days! Hutch has started experimenting with fruits & veggies- it is so much fun! Jennifer, I take your word on the baby food. I don't seem to have quite the desire to sample as you & Joel do! I have tasted the bananas & they are delish! Yummy! Hutch hates them, though. I bought quite a few at Target- I was convinced he would go "bananas" over them..(couldn't resist that one:) I wish I could have recorded his facial expressions- they were hilarious! We aren't tossing the extras just yet, though..I am going to give it another shot in a few weeks. So, far his faves are sweet potatoes & applesauce. Green peas are a hit & miss.

Clear Skin & Sweatbands

Today was a busy day for our little son. He had no idea what was lined up for him when he woke up smiling this morning. First of all, we headed to the dermatologist. Hutch's pediatrician recommended he go due to his baby acne. It's been really odd b/c it went away about a month ago but recently came back very severe. His pediatrician said it was one of the worse cases he has seen. Yay. Just what a new mom wants to hear. The dermatologist told us, however, that baby acne tends to peak at 4 months, and while she could prescribe him something to help, irritated skin would be the side effect, so there was really no point. She said he should outgrow it by 6 months, so that is good to know. She didn't seem too concerned, and being a Mom of 2 small children herself, her words of wisdom were reassuring. I guess now we play the waiting game!

Hutch then had to make a 4:30 appointment for his first day at Physical Therapy. His pediatrician also recommended he go get checked out for torticollis. For those of you who are unfamaliar, let me give you the simple definition. Hutch's neck muscles are not developing quite as quickly on one side as they are on the other. I think this may be due to the fact that he favors one side when he sleeps. His head is a bit flatter on one side, so we are trying to correct it. I was very impressed with the little operation we visited (for those of you fellow Austinites, we went to Kid Therapy). They basically placed Hutch on a mat & did some little exercises with him. We do have do have some training to do here at home & we follow up in 1 month. It was relief to find out that he has a very minor case of the torti (that is what I am going to call it from now on I think) and it should be easily corrected as long as we practice alot at home. My boss suggested we get him some work out attire for when he attends these therapy sessions. I am currently in the market for a baby sweatband & wristbands. I think that would be so cute! Sorry, Jeremy, I am not kidding. I will post pics as soon as I am successful in my quest.

So, to sum things up, Hutch did great & never fussed during either appointment. Perhaps it was the thought of clear skin & sweatbands that made him happy?

Nothing Like a Weekend with the Ladies

It was quite a busy weekend at the Hoskinson house this weekend. Carly came into town for our last Girls Weekend before Haley heads to Thailand in Oct. When I got home from work, Jeremy kept saying how hungry he was & how I needed to hurry up and get ready. I headed to the bedroom to change, and who is standing in my closet when I open the door? My Mom!!!!! It is definitely not a girls weekend without my Mom participating...I was SO shocked! She had flown into Houston & driven in with Carly. Haley had not known she was coming, either. It made our girl's weekend extra special to have her here! We had so much fun! Friday night, the 4 of us headed to Trudy's for dinner while Jeremy kept Hutch. Jeremy's Dad was actually in town for the night, so Hutch had a great time hanging out with all the boys. Saturday we had lunch at Freddie's. Hutch hung out with us all day...he was so great, too. He was quite the trooper- he barely uttered a sound through lunch AND pedis! Here are a few pics from our fabulous weekend....

I love my sisters!

I love my Mom, too!

We all had lunch today at the S Congress Cafe after church. I think Hutch was sick of all the "blowin' and go'in" b/c he was pretty cranky all through lunch. Jeremy & I took turns trying to pacify him back walking around outside. He eventually just fell asleep. About 5 seconds before this picture was taken, he was screaming crying. I thought this was so funny!
