I Beg Your Pardon?

Haley, Haley, Haley. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING???? I am sure most of you non-Mississippians have already heard the news of what our former Governor decided to do before peace-ing out of office. Of course, it sounds a bit ironic associating the word "peace" with the most recent events that have unfolded in our dear state. I have always had alot of respect for Haley Barbour. I thought the way he handled the aftermath of Katrina was incredible & even though I have always been proud to call myself a Mississippian, I held my head a little higher during that time.

But, really? Pardoning 4 convicted murderers? Not to mention the other 200+ pardons? Are you kidding me? First of all, those poor people that are really the victims of this situation, as in the individuals who are now fearing for their lives and the families of the victims. I am just really disappointed. And, secondly, as if Mississippi really needs some more negative publicity. Geez. I drove around the capitol yesterday in hopes of locating Anderson Cooper in the middle of taping a segment or in the process of looking for some bystander to chat with (in that case, I was going to illegally park my car and then just stroll by. As we would pass, I was going to look up and say, "Oh! Hi, Anderson Cooper! Sure, let's chat! I think you are awesome, by the way, and my bestie Alissa has had a crush on you FOREVER. She was devastated when she found out you were gay.") Ok, maybe I would have left out that last part. Maybe not.

Anyhow, I am sure that you have seen all of this pardoning nonsense all over Fox, CNN, or whatever your trusted news source may be, so I won't go into more detail. But, I will tell all of you non-Mississippi blog readers this one thing: We are with ya. This decision was just plain stupid.
That being said, if you haven't noticed, I think this is my 3rd blog this week. Wowsers. I am on a roll! So, that means if I skip a week or two, it's cool. Getting ready for a long weekend- off work for MLK Day! Have a great weekend, friends!

What, a Book Review???

Yes, indeed, my friends, I thought I was well over-due on a book review. And I am fully aware that I am probably the last blogger on the planet to actually read this series, much less review it, HOWEVER, that's ok. This was the first book(s) that I purchased on my new Kindle (which, I LOVE, btw, thank you, Jeremy!) So, hmmm. About this book. Honestly, I am just plain worn out after reading this series. Don't get me wrong- it was good. And I can't wait for the movie. But, GEEZ, could these books have been more depressing? The only thing that I found really humorous didn't really have to do with the books at all- Jeremy kept referring to the triology as "The Hungry Sisters" and he would ask me daily "if those girls have found anything to eat yet." I always got a good laugh out of that. I am sounding really negative about this book, but did anyone else just feel like it was repeating itself? I don't want to give too many details in case any of my 3 blog readers have not read it yet, but, many times, I would just think, "WHAT? Here we go again, I guess." AND, it reminded me of The Uglies, The Pretties, and The Specials. Wow, I just realized that here I am, 31 years old, and I am seriously blogging about the Young Adult books I have read. Next thing you know I will be blogging about the comparison of The Babysitters Club books to Sweet Valley Twins. Which, might I add, were actually my fave books when I was in grade school. Definitely lighter material than the HG books. I digress.

Besides all of that, I really did enjoy the series. It was a quick read & despite all of the negatives, there were moments I found it hard to put down.

What am I reading now, you may be dying to know? Well, I just started Maeve Binchy's Minding Frankie. She is one of my fave authors, btw. It's a bit hard to get into, as all of her books usually are, but I know after a few more chapters, I will be hooked!

Happy Reading!

Hazel Turns One!

Can you believe our little lady is 1? I can't. But she can & she is just so excited to finally get through her first year! We had a brunch party for her on NYE & Hutch decided his gift for her would be coming down with bronchitis, which obviously decreased the guests we expected. Poor little guy! I felt so bad for him, but in true Hutch spirit, you would have never even guessed that he was sick! He was just his normal self the whole time & had a blast- I think he was especially fond of the guests who brought presents for him, too. Although, we are still trying to convince him that all of Hazel's gifts are not his. Right now he is settling for "they are hers and mines." :) Regardless, we were so thankful for the people who braved the germs & came to help us celebrate. For those of you who were not able to make it, we certainly understand, but you were missed! Here are a few pics from the big event:

Hazel is all smiles when her Grandpappy is holding her. And, I think she caught a glimpse of the cake.

Renee & Laura enjoying a mimosa. We had plenty since most people canceled. I may have been just a teensy bit pushy with the drinks. Maybe. I couldn't find a banner I liked at Hobby Lobby, so I just made one.
My friend & coworker Royce's daughter made this. Isn't it so cute? Thanks, Tanner! I know you don't read my blog, but I am thankful you made this & I think you deserve a shout out!

Is it time for cake yet?????

OH, YEAH....NOW it's time for cake! Bring it!

Trying to determine her best tactic.

LOVED the cakes- made by The Fat Cake Guy, in case anyone is interested!

The other cake- it was quite tasty, too!

Do you think she liked it? This girl DEVOURED this cake. I mean, it was like there was no one else in the room. She went to town & shoved as much in her mouth at one time as she could. It was funny b/c she would fit whatever she could in her mouth, then fling the rest on the floor. Then, just dive back in. Repeat. Until it was all gone.

Hutch really wanted his own cake, too, but he settled for a "big piece."
Pop just a smilin'!
And....Grandpappy just a smilin' too!
And, meanwhile, Hazel is still eating!
There was no way she was taking a break to pose for a pic.
And, it's gone.
Everyone just hanging out
Rivers really did have fun there. Really. :)

Hazel Claire, we love you SO much and thank God for you each and every day! You have brought us so much laughter & we can't wait to continue to watch you grow! Love you, Squeaks!

Christmas 2011

Can y'all believe Christmas has come and gone? We had such a great time over Christmas. Hutch did an outstanding performance with his first school program. We were so excited that Lolli could join us to watch it. He had several speaking parts, and you know Hutch- he certainly isn't a shy one, so he hammed it up the whole time. Here are a few pics from after the show.

We spent several nights with my parents over Christmas & we had a ball. I know my parents were thrilled to have everyone at their house for 4 nights, but I am sure they were a teensy bit happy to see us hit the road, too. It was loud in that house. And we constantly ate. But it sure was fun....I think the kiddos were a bit overwhelmed with their presents- they have apparently been VERY good this year. Jeremy said there may have been some sort of clerical error in the North Pole that worked out in Hutch's favor. :) Haley, we missed you TONS! You better be there for Christmas 2013!!!

Bath time pics. Those 3 love their baths.

It sure is tough being Ryder & Hutch.
This is what Marc was able to create after only a couple of margaritas!
Hutch played with these leggos the whole weekend. I think he even slept with them.
Hazel waiting ever so patiently for her Christmas Eve dinner.
I am sure the word "snacks" was used in this picture-taker based upon this smile.
Ruffle bottom!
Christmas present overload!
One of the first gifts we bought Hutch this year. Jeremy told Hutch that the way to every woman's heart is through an accordion.
Ryder's new ride! I hope he's got his license!
Hutch showing off a few of his new gifts. Fire truck shirt- check. Elmo slippers- check. Name puzzle- check!
Look at these 2 musicians. And, yes, they are wearing matching outfits. Totally unintentional, by the way. We got them ready in separate bedrooms & when we all got ready to go, we discovered they were wearing the same thing! Luckily, they are still young enough where this is considered cute. AND, yes, Hutch IS wearing a coon-skin hat. Bet you don't see that on top of someone's head playing a piano too often!
Hazel enjoying her Christmas dinner in Utica.
Little table!
Hazel loves to show off her "UP" and "DOWN" motions.
Hutch sang "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" and "Jingle Bells" for everyone.
Of course, Hutch thought Hazel's pony was his. So, here he is with Ryder giving her a spin.
Jeremy's parents & Kaleb came in Thursday to spend New Year's with us. Here is a pic of our tree that Jeremy took. I have been meaning to take one since I put it up, but I just never got around to it!
Kaleb with his Christmas presents.
Hutch & his Monie.
Grandpappy
Hutch got a new horse, too!!!
We hope that all of you were able to spend your Christmas surrounded by those you love. Here's to a blessed 2012!!!
