October Things

October is one of my favorite months of the year. Here are some snapshots I've taken over the past few weeks.

Hazel & Hutch were so excited to spend some time at the park with their cousin, Lydia. Hazel ADORED her. They held hands, giggled, and just chatted away the entire time.

We roasted marshmellows! We are super pumped about my parents new outdoor fireplace- so excited, in fact, that we couldn't wait for the weather to turn cooler. As noted by the shorts & t-shirts.

The H's love, love, love bubbles.

I was able to take some really good pics of these 2 a couple of weeks ago- I love Hutch's expression in this pic. He looks so tough!

Pure sweetness.

I get this look all the time.

Whassup? I'm just kickin' it with these bubbles.

Jeremy took Hutch to Utica a few weeks ago & they shot guns and cut down trees. Man Day.

It's always a must to stop by Holly & Jason's. Hutch enjoyed visiting with their chickens.

We all headed to Utica last weekend to spend the day with my sweet grandparents- Hazel hanging out with Paw Paw.

This accidental sand-pit has provided countless hours of fun for all the grandkids out at my parents house.

Can't be an "October" post without our annual scarecrow picture! This year proved to be a challenge in regards to getting the H's to look at the camera. Why, may you ask?

Well, there were airplanes.

And exercising. And jumping. You always must jump.

But, I did manage to get a good one of this handsome fella.

And, this is one of my favorites.

We also headed out to Jacktober fest- Mandi, Travis, and Aria joined us. We didn't take the kiddos last year, but we decided this was the year for them.

Besides Hutch immediately karate chopping another child in the stomach (whom we did not know) upon arrival (we chalked it up to excitement, but obviously discussed how he needed to save the kicks & chops for home), they had a fantastic time.

And, when they got tired, well, they just took a rest!

But, their favorite part, was the dancing. Check out these moves. Even better- the band was from Austin. And Hutch and Hazel were able to be front & center.

Hutch even made eyes & got a few winks from the cute tambourine/ back up vocalist there to your right.

Have a great weekend, everyone, and thanks for reading!

10 Random Things

Hi, friends, how are y'all! It's been way too long since I had a random post, so I thought I would share a few things that have been on my mind lately.
  1. First off, check out this song Jeremy introduced me to. It's interesting because watching the video & reading the lyrics, the song content is actually pretty sad. But the music and rythmn is so upbeat & for lack of better words, just happy. I actually watched the whole video which led me to read the lyrics & I was surprised at what the song actually focuses on. Maybe that's why it's so upbeat? Because he left his old life behind? Regardless, I love it, love it, love it.

2. I can't get this off my mind. I know I can't sew. Do you think that's a problem? I think I could swing this by hand-stitching. We are toying with the idea of Jeremy building Hazel a dollhouse for Christmas, so I think this would be a perfect gift for Vivi-cakes. For the record, I am actually inspired to explore my creative side quite often. It's the initiative that tends to be lacking.

3. I just finished reading a fantastic book called When I Found You by Catherine Ryan Hyde. It's a quick read about the unconditional love between a "father" and son. I adored the characters & hated to see it end.

4. I straightened my hair a couple of weeks ago. It was a spontaneous idea that resulted in one hot mess. It was discovered that my straight hair almost reaches belly button. AND, to make it even better, when I left the house that morning, it was so foggy outside I could hardly see in front of me- 95% humidity, I think? 2 hours of straightening and all I was left with was a frizzy side braid that I just couldn't pull off. Boo.

5. Hazel's finally moving up to a big bed! YAY!!! I am currently obsessed with picking out her bedding. I am battling between picking out something that is "little girl" enough (think- flowers, animals, etc., etc.) but something to my liking also (I have accepted the fact that she probably will not be thrilled with a yellow & gray chevron print set that I would pick out if I were redoing my own bedroom).

6. It's yet to hit 50 degrees & I have already made chili twice. Maybe while wearing my tall boots.

7. Did ya hear Alissa is engaged!!! Whoot, Whoot!!!

8. I was recently able to recreate my favorite Whole Foods sandwich. I bought a few loaves of fresh french bread (the sandwich rolls) from Fresh Market, layered it with fresh mozzeralla (amazing), basil (not to be confused with Hazel, if you saw my FB post a few weeks ago), and tomato slices. Delish!!! Speaking of, we cruised by the new Whole Foods a few weeks ago to check on the progress & it's lookin' good! Can't wait for overpriced groceries & lunches!

9. Jeremy spent last weekend in the ATX with Jarrod, Casey, and lots of friends- hate that I missed it but I enjoyed living vicariously through the stories, food (ahem, Matt's El Rancho), and am so appreciative of the stacks of homemade HEB tortillas that have temporarily made their home in our freezer.

10. Halloween is right around the corner! We will be kickin' it with the sweetest toughest little Batman EV-AH and the prettiest little Tinkerbell I have ever laid my eyes on. While I am not a huge Halloween fan, in regards to dressing up myself, I always enjoy spotting unique & fun costumes. Have you seen the rollercoaster riders? (no. 15) Hilarious. One of my favorite Halloween memories is being in Lowes & some dude running in looking for goggles b/c he was going as "Double Dare." The last year we dressed up was in 2007. Early 90's Odessa High Prom King & Queen. Totally last minute costume idea & I remember Jeremy saying he could just throw on a black jacket with jeans. And I said, "For Prom? We are going as Prom Queen & King?!!!" And he said, "What? That's what we wore to my Prom?" So, jeans it was!

Happy Birthday, Haley!!!

Happy Birthday to my favorite youngEST sister, Haley! I am BEYOND blessed to call you a sister & I am super thankful that you still love me even though I was quite the nasty older sister at times when you were younger. I am sorry we told you (countlessly) that you were adopted. I am also sorry that we tried to convince you that Mom & Dad found you in a dumpster and felt bad for you, so they decided to take you to in. Looking back, we shouldn't have told you that you should be the spokesperson for The Piggly Wiggly and that you didn't even need a costume. Since we are getting this all out in the open (I am feeling better with every word I type!), I promise to never put a rubber band around the sprayer in the sink so that when you turn on the water, you are immediately sprayed by cold water. AND, if we were to play "bank" anytime soon, I swear I will let you be the teller. And the teacher (you know, if we decide to pretend one weekend) if we decide to play school. Which, really, that would just make sense, wouldn't it?

I also promise if you ever develop a crazy rash, to NEVER EVER get all my friends off the school bus to come see how horrible it looks.

That's one (of the many) wonderful things about Haley- she just takes everything in stride. Despite the mean things I said to her growing up and the bossing around and everything else, she still loved me & looked up to me. Don't get me wrong, Carly was right there with me ( you noticed the "we" reference above, right?). I can't take all the credit. Looking back at pictures, I just think, how could we have been so mean to that sweet little face? Pure cute-ness, I tell you.

So, Haley, in honor of you today on your birthday, here is a post full of some of my fave pics of you within the past few years. I say that because those are the only pics I really have at my disposal & we both know some of our best memories go way beyond that.  I love you dearly & am so proud to call you my sister! Thank you for being the sweet, unique, fun, full-of-love, independent, Christ-loving person that you are. You truly inspire me in so many ways. May this be your best year ev-ah! Cheers to you!

She did create "airplane-ing" you know. I don't think it has quite taken off like we originally planned, but it's still early yet.

I love the strained smile & Hutch's expression. Seriously, what is that look?

Definitely one of my ALL TIME fave pics.

I laughed out loud when I saw this. There is so much going on in this picture, it is hilarious.

Just before Carly's big day!

Such the proper one.

Amazing hair pic, might I say- wowsers, it's lookin' good!

As I am captioning this, I am having a flashback of you maybe saying something like, "Oh my gosh, that is awful! Don't you dare put this on your blog!" But it's too funny not to. Look at your face & Hazel has this uncomfortable-put-me-down expression.

Another cool-hair pic, except this time of our little dude. Remember that crazy hair???

Happy Birthday, Haley!!! Love you so much & hate we can't actually spend your birthday with you but looking forward to making up for it in a couple of weeks- yay!!!
